MySGI Login Issues: How to Troubleshoot and Fix

Encountering MySGI login issues can be frustrating, especially when accessing important vehicle-related services online. Whether you’re trying to renew your license, update your account information, or manage your SGI policies, a smooth login experience is crucial.

If you’ve been having trouble logging into MySGI after the July update, you’re not alone. Many users have encountered similar issues. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you resolve the problem:

  1. Go to the MySGI website and click on the “Forgot Password” link.

2. Enter the email address associated with your MySGI account. If you’re unsure, please contact an SGI issuer for assistance.

3. If you’ve tried using your email and received an error message saying your account doesn’t exist, try using your username instead.

4. Once you’ve entered your email or username, a temporary password will be sent to your associated email address.

5. Return to the main sign-in screen and enter the email you used and the temporary password.

6. Create a new password and set up multi-factor authentication (optional).

10. Please note that you can no longer log in using your old username. You must use the email address you used during the setup process.

Understanding MySGI Classic vs Beta

It’s important to know that MySGI has two versions: Classic and Beta. MySGI Classic is the original version where you’ll complete most transactions for now. It’s used for tasks like cancelling vehicle registration, making payments for licenses and older policies, printing SDR history letters, and purchasing vehicle permits. MySGI Beta, on the other hand, is the updated version with limited functionality. It’s mainly used for viewing and making payments on new SGI CANADA policies effective July 24, 2024, or later.

Registration Process for brand new users

If you have never signed up for a MySGI account, you need to validate your email address. You can do this by visiting a motor licence issuer in person or calling the customer service representatives at any of our locations. Once validated, you’ll receive an activation code via email, which is valid for 15 days.

To create your MySGI account, follow these steps:

  1. Enter your customer number (the 8-digit number on your driver’s licence).
  2. Input the activation code you received.
  3. Use your validated email address as your username.
  4. Create a password that meets the security requirements.
  5. Read and accept the Terms of Use.
  6. Click Submit to complete the process.

Multi-Factor Authentication Setup

For added security, MySGI offers multi-factor authentication (MFA). This optional feature provides an extra layer of protection for your account. To set up MFA:

  1. Choose your preferred verification method: text message or phone call.
  2. Enter the necessary contact information.
  3. Complete the verification process.

If you’re not ready to set up MFA immediately, you can skip this step and set it up later using your account preferences.

Common MySGI Login Problems

Activation Code Troubles

You’re not alone if you’re having problems with your activation code. Many users face similar issues. If you didn’t receive the activation code you requested, first check your spam or junk mail folder. Sometimes, these important emails can end up there. If you still can’t find it, you may need to contact SGI to have a new code sent.

Remember, activation codes are only valid for 15 days, so make sure you use them within that timeframe.

Browser Compatibility Issues

Sometimes, the problem isn’t with your account but with your browser. MySGI works best with up-to-date browsers that enable JavaScript and cookies. If you’re having trouble logging in, try these steps:

  • Clear your browser’s cache and history • Update your browser to the latest version • Enable JavaScript and cookies in your browser settings • Try using a different browser (e.g., Firefox, Edge, Chrome, or Safari)

If you’re still experiencing issues, restarting your device might be helpful. This simple step can often resolve unexpected technical glitches.

If you’re still having trouble, don’t hesitate to ask for help. You can contact the Customer Service Centre at 1-844-TLK-2SGI (1-844-855-2744) or email mysgisupport@sgi.sk.ca for assistance with technical issues or to complete transactions you can’t do online.
