What Does Classic Vehicle Insurance Cover?
Your auto insurance policy typically provides these essential protections:

Choose the right deductible to protect your investment. Options for vintage and collector vehicles vary by insurer:
| Coverage Type | Available Options |
| Collision or Upset | $100, $200, $350, $500 |
Comprehensive (Fire, theft, vandalism, or falling objects) | $50, $100, $200, $350, $500 |
Traditional policies use actual cash value, which includes depreciation. For collector cars, we use the value shown on your Cover Page to settle claims, meaning no depreciation in the event of a total loss.
| Valuation Method | How It Works |
| Hagerty Agreed Value | Based on Hagerty Value Tools, using the latest auction data and specific customizations. You receive the full agreed-upon value (less deductible) for a total loss. |
| Stated Value | Value is determined by a professional appraisal. This ensures your unique vintage or antique vehicle is protected for its true worth on your policy. |
Note: Valuation can be updated as your vehicle’s market value increases or after significant restorations.
Protect your investment during the off-season with Unlicensed (In Storage) coverage. Even when your plates are cancelled for the winter, your policy continues to provide essential protection against comprehensive perils like fire, theft, and vandalism while your antique or collector vehicle is parked.
*If you need to move your vehicle for maintenance or a show during the off-season, remember to obtain a temporary permit to ensure your full policy coverage applies during transit.
Auto insurance policies offer liability coverage ranging from $1 million to $5 million.
If you’re in an accident where you’re found responsible for causing injury or property damage, the basic $200,000 plate limit might not be enough. This is especially important if you drive in the United States or provinces with different coverage rules than Saskatchewan’s no-fault system.
ANTIQUE
If you own a vintage vehicle and only use it for private, non-commercial trips, you may qualify for Antique Use registration. For most vehicles 1987 or older, the annual cost is a $92 insurance premium (plus PST) and a $68 registration fee.
While the price is attractive, the coverage is basic. It includes $200,000 in liability and a $500 deductible, but limits physical damage coverage (the amount paid if your car is damaged) to just $800.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to register an antique vehicle in Saskatchewan?
For most vintage vehicles (1987 or older), you’ll pay a $92 insurance premium plus a $68 registration fee (and PST). If your vehicle is a true classic from 1941 or earlier, you pay a $92 insurance premium, and the registration fee is discounted to just $5 (plus PST).
Is the $800 limit on antique plates enough coverage?
Usually, no. “Antique Use” registration only covers up to $800 for physical damage (the cost to repair or replace your car). Since most collector cars are worth far more than that, we recommend adding an extension policy (like Hagerty) to protect the Agreed Value.
Do I need an appraisal to get specialized collector insurance?
Not always! While “Stated Value” policies typically require a professional appraisal, our partners at Hagerty often allow you to set a value without one. They use real-time auction data and their own valuation tools to agree on a price with you.
