Click on one of the below topics to unpack your Classic Car Insurance:
Lower your deductible
Pay a little extra monthly to lower your deductible if you have a claim.
Increase your deductible
Pay a little less every month by choosing a higher deductible.
Waive your deductible
You may not have to pay your deductible in some situations. Ask your broker for details.
This coverage will respond if your vehicle collides with another, a post, or a snowbank. Having your vehicle declared antique on your registration will help you save on the basic insurance fee.
However, your coverage will also be reduced, as antique registered vehicles only have a maximum of $800 physical damage coverage and the regular $200,000 liability. Your insurance claim will also be subject to a $500 deductible.
Replacement coverage is often referred to as ‘Agreed Value’ or ‘Guaranteed Value’. It refers to the value that your vehicle will be insured for based on the proven value of your vehicle, as determined by both you and the insurance company. Appraisals, photos, or other relevant documentation will determine the vehicle’s value.
Don’t want to get an appraisal? Consider Hagerty Insurance as a possible insurer. Their Guaranteed Value is determined by your vehicle details using their industry-leading tools to determine the value of your classic.
When your vehicle is tucked away in storage, it’s important to remember that it could still be at risk of a claim. Theft, vandalism, and other threats still exist, and your home insurance will not extend to protect your vehicle.
Besides Hagerty, we offer Classic & Antique Vehicle coverage with SGI Canada & Sandbox Mutual Insurance (SMI).
Looking to protect yourself financially from a potential lawsuit? Look no further than our Auto Pak coverage, which can increase your liability limit. Increasing your liability limit can help protect you financially from the pain of a nasty lawsuit.
If you are accused or found responsible for causing bodily injury or property damage, you’ll want more than the basic $200,000 plate limit.
You can join the Hagerty Driver’s Club for $55/year (before tax) when you purchase a policy. Their exclusive membership includes:
- Roadside assistance: Services include guaranteed flatbed towing.

What sets classic car insurance apart?
Classic car insurance provides several advantages compared to “regular” plate insurance. With guaranteed value coverage, you provide us with the value of your classic car, and we ensure that it is a fair and accurate number. In the unfortunate event of a covered total loss, we guarantee that this value will be paid to you.
On the other hand, regular car insurance carriers typically offer Actual Cash Value or Stated Value coverage. These types of coverage may result in the depreciation of your vehicle’s value during a claim, leading to a smaller payout than expected.
Protect your antique vehicle’s true value.
Don’t settle for antique plate insurance that only covers up to $800 for physical damage. Your antique car deserves proper coverage that reflects its actual value.
Don’t let your valuable antique vehicle go underinsured. Not sure how much your vehicle might be worth? Try Hagerty Insurance’s online tool to get a free estimate of the value of your classic.
