Winter Emergency Kits

Winter Emergency Kits
If you’ve lived in Saskatchewan for any length of time, you know that winter driving can be perilous. No matter how good of a driver you are, you may end up in a situation that leaves you stuck in your vehicle for an extended period of time. For this reason, Harvard Western Insurance highly recommends keeping an emergency kit in your vehicle at all times.

What Should Your kit Include?

  • Food that won’t spoil (such as energy bars)
  • Water in bottles that won’t break if frozen
  • Blankets
  • Extra clothing and boots
  • First aid kit with seatbelt cutter
  • A small shovel
  • A windshield scraper/brush
  • Matches and a candle in a deep can
  • A wind-up flashlight
  • A whistle to attract attention
  • Roadmaps
  • Sand, salt (or non-clumping cat litter)
  • Antifreeze and windshield washer fluid
  • A tow rope
  • Jumper cables
  • A fire extinguisher
  • Road flares or a warning light
Don’t forget to review the contents of your emergency kit periodically to make sure you have everything you need, and that it’s all in working order.
